Teaching Portfolio

As an artist, designer, and educator, my teaching philosophy is rooted in fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to explore their identities, challenge conventions, and create meaningful work. While I prioritize meeting course objectives and ensuring students achieve the technical and conceptual skills required for success, my approach is deeply informed by my research and background. Drawing from my personal experiences as an immigrant and my practice at the intersection of cultural identity, design, and technology, I guide students to engage critically with their surroundings and reflect on how their unique perspectives shape their creative output. I emphasize hands-on learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and the integration of traditional and contemporary practices to cultivate a deeper understanding of the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of art and design. My goal is to empower students to become thoughtful, innovative creators who use their skills to address real-world challenges, build connections across cultures, and contribute positively to society.

My teaching portfolio showcases diverse student projects developed across courses I have taught at Michigan State University and Florida Atlantic University. These include foundational courses such as Typography I and Graphic Design I at MSU, where students explored the fundamentals of type, layout, and visual communication. At FAU, my courses—Typographic Design Lab 2, Visual Design Labs 2, 4, and 5, as well as a summer intensive course and direct independent studies with MFA students—have challenged students to push creative boundaries while addressing complex design problems. Emphasizing critical inquiry, experimentation, and real-world application, I encourage students to merge technical skills with conceptual thinking, resulting in projects that engage with contemporary design issues. This portfolio highlights the depth and breadth of my students’ work, reflecting their growth as thoughtful, innovative designers prepared to make meaningful contributions to the field.
